Students collaborate with a distinguished set of faculty consisting of renowned authors, a Nobel laureate and Guggenheim and Fulbright fellows. Several influential figures also call themselves Blue Hens, including Vice President Joe Biden, New Jersey Governor Chris Christy, NFL quarterback Joe Flacco and WNBA star Elena Delle Donne. The University of Delaware dates back to 1743, when it began as a small private academy. The first class included three signers of the Declaration of Independence and one signer of the U.S. Constitution. UD has pioneered many programs, including America’s first study abroad program, which continues to be a robust part of the University fabric. The University is committed to providing students and faculty with the resources to conduct innovative and advanced research.
