Plastino Scholar
Katie Katz, an Honors nursing major, has been named one of six David A. Plastino Scholars for "exhibiting extraordinary talent, promise and imagination." Through the Plastino Scholars Program, Katz will partner with an organization in Rwanda to focus on "Oral Rehydration Solutions," a liquid mixture given to those suffering from diarrhea - the second leading cause of death in young children. She will observe current practices and help in community education efforts.

Alexis Holzmann, an Honors student majoring in international relations with minors in urban educational studies, sociology and French, has been named one of six David A. Plastino Scholars for "exhibiting extraordinary talent, promise and imagination." Through the Plastino Scholars program, Holzmann will spend the summer in Australia, observing the Koonwarra Village School, an alternative primary school that practices a holistic, child-centric approach to education.

Max Holdsworth, an Honors student with a dual major in public policy and economics, has been named one of six David A. Plastino Scholars for "exhibiting extraordinary talent, promise and imagination." Through the Plastino Scholars program, Holdsworth will travel to England to assist in research on prevention programs operated through Great Britain's National Health Service. He will examine the perspectives of academics, healthcare professionals and consumers.

Christopher Gunter, a criminal justice major with a minor in sociology, has been named one of six David A. Plastino Scholars for "exhibiting extraordinary talent, promise and imagination." Gunter designed "The Missing Voices Project" as a way to understand the narratives of convicted individuals and the effects on their families. He plans to attend law school and become a leader in the criminal justice system.

Navika Gangrade, an Honors student majoring in dietetics with a minor in psychology, has been selected as a David A. Plastino Scholar for exhibiting extraordinary talent, promise and imagination. Gangrade received a grant to study urban farms throughout the United States in an effort to understand their nutritional impact on their communities, and plans to bring effective programs and ideas back to Delaware.

David J. Freschman Scholarship
The Horn Program in Entrepreneurship has honored five University of Delaware students with scholarships and awards for the 2015-2016 school year. Sophomore Davis Pfund, an Entrepreneurship major and Chinese studies minor, was awarded the David J. Freschman Scholarship for demonstrating strong potential to become a successful entrepreneur.

UD students named 2014 Goldwater Scholars
The Goldwater Scholars Program awards scholarships to college students who intend to pursue research careers in the science, mathematics and engineering fields. Only 283 students throughout the U.S. were selected for this scholarship, considered the premier undergraduate award of its kind.
