UD student wins entrepreneurship award

2016 May 4

Eric Albers, a junior with a double major in Finance and Economics, is one of five University of Delaware students to be honored for their entrepreneurial achievements and potential.

The winners will receive scholarships and awards from UD's Horn Program in Entrepreneurship for their accomplishments during the 2015-2016 school year. They will be officially recognized at an award ceremony on May 13 in the Venture Development Center, located on UD's Newark campus.

Albers, who is from Colorado Springs, CO, was named a co-recipient of the Shawn & Sheryl McCall Award for Entrepreneurship, granted for showing entrepreneurial promise.

Specifically, Albers is being recognized for his work on Lazarus Rising, a social venture that is fighting homelessness through a program that provides job placement skills to those without permanent housing. Lazarus Rising is supported by UD's VentureOn program, which provides resources and support to help hatch and grow student businesses.

Albers will receive a check divided into a cash award, a stipend for active participation in Venture Development Center (VDC) programming, and VDC credit, which can be expended to further their entrepreneurial education through startup activity, participation in startup events, and travel to meet with advisors and prospective customers.

The Horn Program, housed in UD's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, offers students experiential learning, evidence-based entrepreneurship and active engagement with entrepreneurs, business leaders and members of the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.
