Student represents UD at USA Science & Engineering Festival

Robert Heebner, a senior from Skillman, N.J., majoring in mechanical engineering, recently led UD's chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers to the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington, D.C.

At the festival, held April 16-17 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, members of the group, known as Blue Hen Racing, presented a Formula One car they designed. The car includes the first parts they've made for one of these vehicles using 3D printing - for the air intake. They also had a gearbox on hand from an old pickup for a deeper look into the transmission, with spinning of the input and output shafts encouraged.

Heebner joined Blue Hen Racing as a freshman. And his time spent with the club and in the classroom has already paid off: He has a job lined up after he graduates from UD this May - with Ford Motor Company.
