Chris Burke of Claymont Wins Writing Award at University of Delaware

2011 Nov 17

Ten University of Delaware students were recognized by the Center for a Public Anthropology for their participation in a North American writing competition involving more than 4,000 students from 25 schools.

UD's winners of the Public Anthropology Award wrote opinion pieces about how federal regulations can be properly balanced to allow researchers the freedom to pursue important projects as they see fit while making sure that such freedom is not abused and that the research serves the public good.

Award-winners include Chris Burke, a Junior from Claymont.

Burke is a student in the "Introduction to Social and Cultural Anthropology" class taught by Donna Budani, assistant professor of anthropology.

"Professor Budani has successfully showcased the ability of Delaware students' effective writing skills while being active global citizens," said Robert Borofsky, director of the Center for a Public Anthropology.

This is the 10th competition in which Budani's students have participated, with many winning first-place recognition.
